Snow Go< Climbing The Mount | Blog | Meet Up > During the first few weeks of January, we had some snow here in England, which like the previous year, caused chaos throughout the whole country. You may remember last year when we last had snow I made a snowman, which you can read about here. The snow started to fall on one cold night, which was a few days after I had started my new job. That morning I opened my bedroom curtains and I was greeted with a white snowy scene like it came from The Chronicles of Narnia.
I couldn’t open the garage door to get to my car to drive to work in Guildford, as it had frozen shut. The snow was too deep to drive my car anywhere, and the roads were in a bad state, as they had not been gritted.
I walked to my nearest bus stop, and waited for a bus, but one never came along. I took some pictures on my mobile whilst I was waiting.
I then walked back home to call my local bus company, but they kept cutting me off before I had chance to talk to them, so I gave up. That day I could not get to work, I was stuck in my village of Rowly in Cranleigh. Everywhere ground to a halt, it was bliss. I managed to get to work over the next few days by bus to Guildford, but not until the late afternoon. On one of the days walking back to the bus station after work to catch my bus home, I ended up doing the splits on some slippery ice walking down a slope. I bashed my knee and ended up with a nice colourful bruise. I met my friend Gabriella after work, and we enjoyed walking round Stoke Park in the snow. We had a snow fight, and we watched the sunset, which created interesting and pretty colours across the snowy landscape.
Check out the beautiful video below showing Stoke Park in the snow.
There was more heavy snow the following week. I liked getting up each morning to find animal and bird trails in the snow where they had been walking, crawling, and hopping around the garden looking for food.
Some people built an igloo on a cricket green in a nearby village called Shalford, which was cool to see.
The whole of Great Britain was covered in snow, which you can see from the below satellite image.
When the snow did finally melt, it caused a lot of damage to the roads. There are now potholes everywhere, which makes it a nightmare to drive. Wherever you go now, it is like driving a moon buggy across a crater-filled moonscape. Hubcaps from damaged cars litter the roadside like discarded Frisbees.
Although the snow looked very nice, its not so nice when you have to drive, or use public transport to get to places. Related ContentComments on Snow Go |
