Russian Romance< Turning On The Christmas Lights In Guildford | Blog | Memorabilia > On Friday 13th November, it turned out to be a good day for me, and not an unlucky one. I went out with my Hungarian friend Gabriella to see a classical concert inside the Guildford Cathedral, which is local to me. I was looking forward to going to it, as I had never been to a concert inside the Cathedral before, and I had only seen a few small classical concerts elsewhere before then.
The classical concert was called Russian Romance, and it featured mainly Russian music. The concert was played by the Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra and had the following music;- Mendelssohn Hebrides Overture op.26 Stephen Bell conductor We arrived early at the concert, so we could get some good seats near the front. The first three rows were reserved. We saw the Mayor and other important people sit down in the front rows. There were some large screens and cameras pointing towards where the orchestra were sat, so everyone could see them.
The concert started with Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture op.26. Mendelssohn was German, and not Russian, so I was surprised the concert started with his music. It was very nice music though, and was one of the best that night. I have included a video of it below.
There was a short break afterwards, we had a walk round the Cathedral, it was very windy outside, so we went back inside, and then the concert started again. The next piece of music played was Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto in D op.35. There was a very talented young lady called Tamsin Waley-Cohen playing her Stradivarius violin, which she played very well, it was amazing. She was very pretty too.
After that piece of music ended, there was another break. We bought some ice-cream to eat. The final musical piece was Tchaikovsky Symphony No.6 in B minor op.74 Pathetique. We both did not like this piece of music as much as the previous two, as it did not have much of a melody, it seemed dark and a bit depressing. It was played very well, but the final music was not to my taste.
It was an enjoyable evening, I would like to see more classical concerts again in the near future. Related ContentComments on Russian Romance |
