Guildford Boat Festival

A couple of weeks ago on a Sunday afternoon I went for a walk along the River Wey in Guildford, as it was a nice sunny day.

The River Wey

Unbeknown to me, the day before I walked along the river was the Guildford Boat Festival.

It was a shame I missed the event, I forgot it was on. I have seen the boat festival in previous years. They do many fun things on the river including a raft race and have decorated boats lining the riverbanks. I've included a video of the start of this year's raft race below.

The raft race

I remember going a couple of years ago when they had a Duck Race on the river. Hundreds of yellow rubber ducks were released from the top of a bridge and they all floated down the river. Each rubber duck had a number underneath. Members of the crowd were given these numbers. The winning duck to cross the finish line won a prize for whoever had the number.

Even though it was a day after the event, they still had many barge boats by the river, quite a few people were using rowing boats too, so I took some photos on my mobile camera.

It was a nice day to be by the river.
